“He would have like to have been here,” said Harold Atencio, the New Mexico-based attorney representing Ariana’s father Joseph Romeo. “He would have liked to be able to protect his child. Its every parent’s worst nightmare to have something like this happen to your child when you’re nowhere near and you can protect her.”
Custody issues led to a, somewhat, strained relationship between Ariana and her father. Romeo hadn't seen his daughter since 2016. But Atencio said despite that, he is working with Ariana's mother to come up with an agreement.
“Mr. Romeo and the child's mother actually have an agreement, in principle, right now. We are just trying to work out some of the technical details of having her transported back. We expect to have a signed agreement today,” said Atencio.
The agreement would allow for services to be held for Ariana in New Mexico before transporting her body to Florida.
Ariana's family is raising money to pay for her body to be transported. People can donate by going to their GoFundMe page.
