ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Thousands of people in Las Vegas headed home after the Strip was locked down overnight in the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history. However, what happened there isn't stopping hundreds of people from flying into Las Vegas.

A number of New Mexicans said if anything, Las Vegas needs them now more than ever. That's why they didn't change their plans and headed to the city.

"It's a horrible thing that happened and my thoughts and prayers go out to you know everyone impacted, but I'm not going to let what this one guy did determine what I'm going to do," said one traveler, Ed Matthews.

Whether they're flying to visit friends or to get back to work, one message is clear. New Mexicans are standing with Las Vegas.

"I don't know what I’m going to fly into right now, but I guess a lot of people are going to donate blood," said Mann Lanuza, a video producer in Las Vegas. "And that's one of the first things I'm going to try and go do when I get there."

Lanuza said he's on the Strip all the time and the entertainment industry is extremely close.

"Everyone's still in shock. Our whole city's still in shock," he said. "We're really a small town, so this affects everyone there cause this is what we do every day. Everday we have concerts."

Now there’s a wave of fear over the city with dozens dead and hundreds injured.

“I've seen a lot of videos on social media that they [his friends] personally posted that are like very hard to watch," Lanuza said. "I just don't even know what I'm flying into right now.”

But what they do know is the people in Las Vegas have rallied together in their time of need, and that's what they'll be doing once they land.

“Don't let this one incident deter you from doing what you want to do," Matthews said. "Every day is not granted to us you know, so live life to its fullest.
