ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Seeding for the NMAA state soccer tournament will be announced this weekend.

Albuquerque High School will be a force to contend with following the team winning its district, buoyed by the state's leading 6A goal-scorer who has led the Bulldogs to a 15-3 record.

Zaria Katesigwa, a freshman, has 33 goals this season. Even she will admit her success this year has been a surprise.

“Actually I would think I was on the bench a lot because a lot of freshman don’t really start,” Katesigwa said. “It’s just been an amazing year, starting on varsity (while) being a freshman. It’s been just wonderful.”

Albuquerque High head coach Sara Torrez said Katesigwa has all the right qualities to lead the team.

“She’s driven and she’s not cocky about it, so it gives her a down-to-earth mentality,” Torrez said.
