A final vote for the resolution will be made on Oct. 12 by the full City Council. Officials say the reason for the resolution is simple: to keep employees safe. Some residents say they agree.
"Especially commuting to work and from work, there's something that can always go wrong," said Zachary Joyce, who lives in Roswell. "It's best to have protection if something does go wrong."
Nearby Eddy and Otero counties already allow their employees to carry a concealed weapon while they're at work. People say anyone who completes the process to get their conceal carry license should have the option to carry their gun.
"I'm not saying that all employees should carry, but they should be given the opportunity to if they feel like they need to," said Orrie Adcock, who lives in Roswell.
Following the shootings in Nevada and Clovis, some people say they feel it’s important for everyone to protect themselves.
“The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun,” Adcock said.
