Some donations more helpful than others for Harvey relief

FARMINGTON, N.M. -- Throughout New Mexico, aid efforts are underway to help those left in the wake of Tropical Storm Harvey. Like many in the country, folks in the Four Corners are working to send New Mexico's neighbor some much-needed supplies.
"So far [there are] lots of pillows and blanket, a good amount of clothing," said Allen Elmore of American Classified. "What we are really shooting for is lots of toiletries and medical supplies."
While any donation is good, Elmore says thought-out donations are even better.
"So far we’ve gotten some items that may not be useful to people in a flood area. They are receiving winter coats there, high heel shoes," he said. "Those things aren’t necessities. Those things aren’t going to help people out in this situation right now. These people are just looking for some dry regular clothes that they can wear [or] some dry shoes that they can put on, not some of these luxury items."
Supplies are not the only needed necessity. Transportation is too.
"We’re sending down a camper," Elmore said. "It’s a big fifth wheel camper. And we are going to fill it up. And we are sending that down on Sunday. If we have too much stuff, we have a large flatbed trailer. But if I have more than that, then it probably going to have to go to local charities or something. I don’t foresee being able to make a third trip."
