ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- UNM men's basketball coach Paul Weir announced Friday he is losing his leading scorer and rebounder for the time being.

Sam Logwood is taking a personal leave away from the team to contemplate his future. The senior will likely not play this week against New Mexico State.

Weir says it's not an academic issue or legal trouble; he is simply not happy as a member of the team. Weir doesn't know how long Logwood will need or what comes next.

"It's been a really long road for him and his time here," Weir said. "For me and him, it was a mutual decision of, 'You know what, I think he just needs a little bit of personal time to collect himself and reflect a little bit on where this goes from here.'"

The UNM women's basketball team will try to keep their win streak alive this weekend when the Lobos host unbeaten Navy on Sunday. Head coach Mike Bradbury said some of their success has to do with the amount of support they've been receiving for their home games.

"We've been kind of picking up 100 or 200 [fans] every game. This time we picked up 1,000 on a weeknight game, almost get to 6,000," he said. "And now we've got an undefeated Navy team 9-0, coming in here on Sunday. Probably will be the toughest team we've had to date."

UNM's 10-game win streak is the program's best start to any season. UNM's longest win streak at any point during the season is 11 games. They've done it twice.
